The study was actually done with less than 30 individuals under going surgery. This automatically means not much reliability because it is too small of a sample. The people in the study were in a special program. They didn’t just get surgery. They were also taught to eat fruits and vegetables with plenty of fiber and to exercise. They also had sessions every six weeks to review how they were doing and to get additional coaching.
The individuals chosen for this study had only recently been diagnosed (the last two years) with diabetes. Therefore they had not yet progressed to the point where the pancreas can no longer do it’s job. For people in this condition it is very easy, if one is diligent, to reverse this problem with proper diet and exercise.

The diabetes did not disappear because of the surgery. The diabetes gradually subsided over the next couple of years following the surgery as they followed a healthy lifestyle.

It should also be remembered that these were individuals who had been extremely obese, and the ones who were able to reverse their diabetes where also the ones who lost the most weight. The surgery did help with weight loss.

The other thing that should be pointed out is that getting a little self control of portion sizes and taking your time when eating would be a much better way (and much less expensive) than surgery. Of course they also had more incentive to make lifestyle changes so as not to waste the pain (both physical and financial) of the surgery.

They said cholesterol comes from diet and from your family (genes). These two ideas have been perpetuated by many people (doctors and otherwise) who simply have not done their home work. What is Cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a very important substance required for health in the human body. Cell membranes are made up of cholesterol. Cholesterol is also used by the body to patch little rips in the blood vessels and arteries that are caused by free radicals. It is a type of fat, but not the type that causes your excess weight.

Where does it come from?

Your body makes however much of it that your body thinks it needs. You do not need to eat any cholesterol for your body to make cholesterol. How much cholesterol you eat has very little to do with your blood cholesterol level, or how much cholesterol gets deposited in your arteries. Even your genetics is not really connected to your specific cholesterol levels.

The human genome project has helped us to understand many things. One of those things is that genetics are only weak indicators of what may or may not eventually manifest itself in the human body. The environment that the cells of the body live in is by far the deciding factor. That’s why it is important to keep a clean healthy environment for the cells of your body.

The real problem?

Cholesterol builds up in a body that has a lot of free radicals zipping around. Free radicals cause damage which the body then attempts to patch up using cholesterol. The more unhealthy you are the more likely you are to have high cholesterol.

The basic rules for health and wellness are actually quite simple.

There is no need for a big book with a step by step program and recipes. You just need some common sense and to be able to recognize the true weight behind the different ideas and studies you will see reported in the media.

One reason that it has been easier for me than it is for some others is because I accept the premise that there is a God that created this earth specifically for the use and benefit of mankind. I could go into all the reasons why I accept that, but suffice it to say that the evidence is overwhelming for that conclusion. No matter how many people may try to persuade you otherwise, the evidence in science, philosophy, mathematics, religion, history, or spiritualism is much more dependable and logical for the existence of a creator than against it.
The simple fact is that the earth was made for mankind, and mankind was made for the earth. Once you understand that, it is so simple to see that the natural foods placed for us here on the earth are the best ways for us to remain healthy. That is not to say that anything found naturally on the earth is necessarily beneficial to all mankind. But we are to use our intelligence to learn and to grow and to have both negative and positive experiences.

The foods that mankind has learned are good to eat are always more life- and health-giving if we eat them in their whole, natural state. Modern mankind has made the sad mistake of deciding to cook and/or otherwise process most -if not all- of what we eat. In so doing, we have destroyed much of the health-sustaining properties of our food. On top of that, the foods that we do tend to eat without cooking, we have contaminated with pesticides and other man-made chemicals that are also detrimental to health.

One of the interesting things that you see as you review study after study after study is that the more we try to break food down into its separate elements to find out which parts we can use to cause health, the more we discover that the raw, natural food as a whole is much better at balancing the systems of the body and avoiding an over-stimulus in any one area.

Looking at study after study, it can become mind-blowing just how ignorant we are of the natural goodness that is built into the fruits and vegetables that the earth provides for us.

Another amazing thing that you see is that every time raw, natural, pesticide-free food is used as the major or sole source of food for people, they become much healthier and stronger than when they ate man-made, processed foods.

The basic rules for health and wellness all come down to doing what is right for mankind.

1. Eat a variety of good, wholesome foods (raw whenever possible).

2. Drink good clean water.

3. Exercise regularly (ideally six days a week).

4. Rest regularly. One day a week lay off the hard physical labors, and get a good nights sleep every night.

5. Breathe (deeply) plenty of good, clean air. The best way to breathe deeply is to make sure that you blow out as much air as possible when you exhale.

6. Get good doses of sunshine regularly.

7. Think positive, happy thoughts as often as possible. That often comes from helping your fellowman.

8. Give thanks sincerely and regularly.

That’s it! Those are the basics that have been proven time and time again in test after test as well as in common sense. Of course we could fill in much more detail as to what things are better for given times and situations, but the basics are still simple. If we all just followed the basics there would be much less disease and sorrow in this world.

Here’s a big misconception that is in large part driven by advertising and marketing. And before I address this one, I want you to know that I am not blaming anyone. Of course all businesses and the Government should be held accountable, but ultimately your body is in your hands. No one can force you to do or eat anything. Agreed? Ok, onward. Now let me address this “anti-lean” myth. You DO NOT need to eat before you exercise or expend energy. And if you’re goal is to lose weight and burn fat, then you definitely shouldn’t! See, what I’ve noticed as of late is there is an entire industry promoting “athletic foods and beverages” that are somehow going to help you become lean and strong if you consume them before you work out.
Specifically, I’m talking about all of the sports drinks and energy bars out there. If you are trying to get lean by consuming these products in addition to your regular diet, then you are going have a bumpy road ahead of you. If an athlete simply wants to have an abundance of energy to perform at his/her optimum state then yes, some of these products make sense. An example of this would be a professional basketball player who consumes a sports drink or a professional cyclist who eats an energy bar during a race. The simple reality is that these products do have calories, and most of them are loaded with sugar. That’s where all the “energy” comes from. So if you consume an energy bar right before you go weight lift or you consume a sports drink while performing your cardio exercise, guess what you’re using as energy? Yeah, exactly. Trying to lose fat consuming these types of products is like trying to run a race with a 20 pound weight on each ankle. The progress is S-L-O-W. Now when you exercise on an empty stomach on the other hand, guess what your body uses for energy? FAT!
